An Indian
wedding is not a one day show. It consists of several other ceremonies like; mehendi, sangeet, haldi, etc. Therefore, at such situations where there are so much
of arrangements made, dressing uniquely is a must. Different regions of India
have their way of dressing in the marriage ceremony. In the west, south and
eastern India, people still adhere to the traditional dresses like dhoti, mundu,
and lungi.
A
typical Indian wedding has always to do something with great pomp and vigor. An Indian wedding is mostly never a
quiet affair. Each and everything, starting from food, music to the dresses
which the bride and groom wear are loud and vibrant. Thus, it is very important
for one to choose the wedding attires
cautiously. If one has ever visited any wedding ceremony in Delhi, he or she
will understand what a ‘big fat Indian wedding’ is called. Even the banquet halls in Delhi are so beautifully decorated; it is easy to get awestruck at the
decorations and other arrangements.
Picking
up perfect attire for the groom is equally difficult. It becomes very difficult
for the groom to choose a perfect dress for him when everyone in the house has
a say in it. Thus, it becomes a challenging task to choose a proper attire as
these ceremonies come only once in a lifetime. A bride’s dress always gives attention than
the groom’s.
- ‘Sherwani’ is considered to be the best option for the groom to wear in his wedding ceremony. It is the widely wore dresses in all traditional Indian weddings. It is available in various styles like; Pathani Sherwani, Jodhpuri Sherwani, Rajasthani Sherwani, etc.

- Another attire for the groom is Dhoti with Sherwani Kurta. This is not very loud but still looks sober and stylish.

- One can also go for the Kurta Pajama look. This can be worn by the groom as well by the other male guests.

- Nehru Jacket is yet another latest dress code which has come up in the recent years. It can be worn in the wedding ceremony or in the reception party.

- Last but not the least, Dhoti suits are another style statement set by the most stylish grooms in an Indian wedding. This attire can also give an elegant look to the groom.
A Bride’s apparel and her entire get up are always given more importance than the
groom’s. Selection of the bride’s dress is more time consuming and is something
which is given more focus.
- A bride generally is adorned with a lehenga. It is generally based upon the region. The north Indians mostly go for lehengas.

The bride in other parts of
India mostly wears Ghagra Choli. They
complement an Odna with it.
· Christian weddings, though an
adaptation from western marriages forms a smaller proportion of Indian
weddings. They generally opt for western gowns and then wear saree for the
reception.
These were some of the dress codes which a ‘soon to be bride and
groom’ can follow.
